Congratulations, everyone: we made it through 2017. To celebrate, we’re looking at New Years’ Eves gone by. Specifically, we’re comparing the weird fear/optimism hybrid of the Y2K age with that of a century prior. Torey dove into the fascinating world of Y2K fashion and tried to get her mind around a comparison with the Victorian fashions of 1900. She also managed to completely ruin coffee by turning it into jelly. Meanwhile, Steph met with success trying to replicate an unexpectedly Canadian appetizer for NYE 1999: sushi! This month we’re staying chronologically close to home, hopping back just a few decades to the roaring '90s. We chose two happy memories of the period --grunge fashion and the McPizza--and set about to see what they have in common. Torey tried to connect with her inner Kurt Cobain and ended up with only a mild existential crisis in a Value Village. Steph met with much more certain success, finding a veritable double for the McPizza crust recipe (that cornmeal mouthfeel!) and tracing its dubious roots through fast food history.
